It's all about the heart
April 1, 2009
Cain and Abel: two brothers from the beginning; both with the same chances for acceptance.
Genesis 4:3-8”3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.4
And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his
offering:5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.6 And the
LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted?
and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.8 And Cain talked
with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.”
In this chapter we have two brothers. God said in the process of time? How much time and what was God saying? “Cain, you’re
doing what you know you need to do but you’re doing it religiously.” God said that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground. Was it his
best? Was it left over? Had he already eaten, traded, and sold portions? God gave him the earth and what everything he could grow.
It’s all about our hearts and putting God first in all we do!
Able brought his best and his first with a cheerful heart, thankful. He was grateful to be able to do it. See, after the fall of Adam God
was still in communication with man. God was just not in man. Even after Cain slew his brother God talked to Cain. Cain tried to
cover his sin, cover his shame and lies. It’s all about the heart. See, Cain heart’s condemned him and his pride consumed him.
Don’t let these preachers always tell you how much you’re supposed to bring. It’s not about money or the amount of it. It’s about your
heart to God. Man looks at outer parts of man, but God looks always at your heart. The greedy servant will preach to you always about
the amount of the sacrifice or about tipping God or Cain spent and ate of his tithe. It’s not about man or money. It’s about your heart.
Able as soon as he set out to work for God he already had in his heart his sacrifice and offering to bring his best to God. He was
watching his firstlings.
The entire time God was on his heart pleasing God. Was his motive, the firstling? That was just the manifestation of the heart. Cain
was probably thinking of himself what he was going to trade for what he had. He lived by the law. He probably said to himself:“Oops. I
almost forgot I need to bring an offering. Here it is God. Just like you told me I had to do”! God brought the increase from the ground
but the only time Cain had God on his mind was when he knew he had to do works.. It’s not about what we are doing for God. It is
how your heart is while you’re doing it for Him. Remember: the Bible says “ Out of the heart flows the issues of life”. God is life when
God gets your heart He has your life. Give him all your heart today. The Bible says: believe in your heart Jesus died for you
(repentance is from the heart), then – secondly – says – confess with your mouth – you shall be saved.
We as ministers are under great misunderstanding. Some are training and being trained thinking if we can just convince someone
to speak or say a prayer “Jesus forgive me, come into my heart and so on they are saved. But most of them turn around after they
have prayed and go living the same way you see. When the Bible says in II Cor. 5:17: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new
creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”They are really not accepted by God if they don't mean
with their whole hearts. They did not really give God their hearts. They need to know more than God loves them. All they have to do is
say something. But, no. It’s all about our hearts. Knowing that you need to repent, turn from you old ways, and change your heart.
That's true salvation. David had a heart after God? Yes. He had some flesh/sin. But he had a heart after God. Here are a few things
David spoke about the heart in Psalms.
Psalm 32:11:”Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.”
Psalms 44:21:”Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.”
Psalms 51:10:”Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
Psalms 62:8:”Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.”
Psalms 77:6:” I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search.”
Psalms 101:4:”A froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person.”
These preachers should be concerned and focusing men and woman on their hearts. They wouldn’t have to beg for money because
when God has all their hearts He will have all your money. They will not have to beg for money if you beg for money maybe you need
to check your heart.
Everything is about the heart. We get our heart in line with God and that’s when the glory appears in our lives. Remember: Jesus
spoke to the Pharisees religious leaders of that time. Matthew 23:26-28 26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within
the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are
like unto whited sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all
uncleanness.28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.”
This is exactly why Jesus is saying. Works religion what’s in the cup that matters. What is inside your heart, in your spirit? We must
cleanse our hearts through repentance and having our minds on Him. If you only seeking God on Sundays just stay home because
he said it’s better to be “cold or hot”, not lukewarm Christians. Only have God on their hearts once or twice a week. He is an everyday
God. He has to be always on your mind. Then whatever comes out of you is accepted by Him: your time, your finances, your family,
your marriage, your ministry, everything. Then these are seed sown that shall produce life. Then abundance comes.
God will not give to a goat what belongs to a sheep. Jesus spoke in Matthews about the heart – Matt 5:8 “Blesseth are the pure in
heart they shall see God.” Matt 6:21 “For where your treasure is so shall your heart be also.” Matt 12:35 “ A good man out of the
good treasure of his heart bring forth good things.” Jesus said in Matthew 22:37 “ Thou shall love your God with all your heart,
all your soul, all your mind.” You see, Able was loving God with all of these. Cain only with his mind. For example: “It’s time to give
to God – here is what you commanded of me. It’s Sunday, here is my offering.” He had God on his mind but not on his heart.
Jesus saying: We have Cains and Ables in the church today. God put’s it like this “tares and wheat – sheep and goats. We must get
back to the heart of it all. Not about ministry. Not about money. It’s about the heart. Ministry will come automatically with a right heart.
Here is what Solomon – a man of wisdom – spoke about the heart:
Proverbs 12:25: “25 Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.”
Proverbs 15:7:”The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.”
Proverbs 28:26:” He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.”
Proverbs 15:13:” A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.”
Proverbs 26:25:”When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.”
These are a few God actually talks about the heart. He talks about the heart over seven hundred and thirty times in the Bible. Jesus
spoke in Mark when Isaiah prophesied of hypocrites as it is written: this people honors me with their lips but their hearts are far from
me.
Mark 7:7-8:”He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people
honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the
commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and
cups: and many other such like things ye do.”
See, Able was righteous in his heart. Cain was religious in his heart. Steven even spoke about the heart to the religious. Acts 7:51
“51 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.” Now
God is still talking about the heart. God wants His church and their hearts. Let give back our idols to Pharaoh. Let’s give our hearts
back to our Father. He promises to keep a smile on our face. Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s. Give to God what is God’s. God
doesn’t need your things. He desires your heart so he can give you things.
In Him,
