Give Me Your Armor Bearer’s Feet
One day I heard somebody saying that some churches have more armor bearers than members. Then I started to think about it, and
I came to the conclusion how sad and true this is. So I’ve started to look around to find some of them. Have you found any? I’ve
found some in the Old Testament, some in some churches, but none in the New Testament. Strange, isn’t it? So I opened up my
heart and asked the Holy Spirit to teach me all things and to set me free, bringing me the truth about this matter. He led me to the
book, “God’s Armor Bearer” by Terry Nance. Through his book I learned about the armor bearers and I also realized that they
weren’t mentioned once in the New Testament. How can it be if today we can see many of them carrying ministers’ bibles and
opening their car doors?
There’s nothing wrong with serving, but everything wrong when we treat ministers differently than our other brothers in Christ. I knew
I felt there was something to be revealed to me. So I went to my Strong Concordance and looked up the words “servant” and “ to
serve”. I was amazed when I found out that the “armor bearer” of the church of the New Testament is no longer a servant of one
man, but a servant unto all. Paul, the Apostle, although in his “ great” position and recognition in the Body of Christ said, “ I have
made myself a servant unto all, that I might gain the more” I Cor 9:19. He encouraged us to esteem others better than ourselves,
according to Philippians 2:3. Peter also taught that we need to submit to the elder but also that we all need to be subject one to
another, (I Pe 5:5). Because every part of the body is supposed to receive the same, exactly the same honor. Also told us to honor all
men in I Peter 2:17. This is a command to everyone. Not only to the church toward the ministers but to the ministers toward the
whole body of Christ. In Galatians 5:13, we read that we should serve one another.
Back in the Old Testament I saw the armor bearers serving the King and in the New Testament I saw a KING serving servants.
JESUS took upon himself a form of servant (Philippians 2:7) and showed us that a great leader has to be a great servant. I can
imagine Jesus telling the Old Testament‘s armor bearers: “Hey, stop doing that. I came to serve you not to be served“. “For even the
Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45
Not only for me but also for Charles R.Swindoll the word SERVANT is a forgotten word among the church leaders today (also among
the brethrens in Christ). “Maybe I need to clarify…in the Body of Christ there is one Head. Christ Jesus is Lord of His body. (Col 1:15-
18). No human being dare take that position. Only Christ is the Head. All the rest of us are in the class Jesus spoke of in Matthews
20...servants!” Charles R.Swindoll - Improving Your Serve.
Jesus taught His disciples, future church leaders, how to be the last, not the first, how to serve all, not some. He said in John 12:26,
“If anyone serves Me, he must continue to follow Me to cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if
need be, in dying and wherever I am, there will My servant be also. If anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.” Right after
this passage, Jesus, the King of Kings, the Lord of lords… “laid aside his garment, took a towel, He poured water into a basin and
began to wash the disciples‘ feet..“ John 13:4,5.
Peter couldn't’ understand why. “Lord, are my feet to be washed by you? “, he said. Jesus answered: “You do not understand now
what I am doing, but you will understand later on.” I pray to the Spirit of wisdom and revelation to make the “later on” to become
NOW”. Let now be the hour of revelation of this Word.
“So, do you understand what I have done to you? You call Me the Teacher and Lord.“ Or would we say priest such and such, pastor
such and such, apostle such and such, evangelist such and such, prophet such and such, teacher such and such, minister such
and such, elder such and such? “You are right in doing so, for that is what I am”. We’re supposed to give honor to whom honor is
due. “If I then, your Lord and Teacher (Master) have washed your feet, you ought (it is your duty, you are under obligation, you owe it to
wash one another‘s feet. “
“IF I HAVE GIVEN YOU THIS AS AN EXAMPLE, SO THAT YOU SHOULD DO IN YOUR TURN WHAT I HAVE DONE TO YOU. I ASSURE
YOU, MOST SOLEMNLY I TELL YOU, A SERVANT IS NOT GREATER THAN HIS MASTER, AND NO ONE WHO IS SENT IS SUPERIOR
TO THE ONE WHO SENT HIM. IF YOU KNOW THESE THINGS, BLESSED AND HAPPY AND TO BE ENVIED ARE YOU IF YOU PRACTISE
THEM IF YOU ACT ACCORDINGLY AND REALLY DO THEM.” John 13:5, 12-17
Let us take off our garments, our very nice suits and start to wash somebody’s feet. Let us tell the Old Testament’s armor bearers
that it’s over. Now the king will be the servant and the servant of one man will be the servant of many. Let all of us take some towels
and start to wash someone’s feet. If anyone serves Him, if anyone loves Him, if anyone loves others more than themselves, let him
follow Jesus. Let’s prefer to serve rather than to be served.
My brethren, let’s take a towel and wash some feet.
