BE STILL

God is saying He is removing you from the pressure. The pressures of life, the pressure of a religious yoke, pressure from your family. Pressure from situations. 

There were many times that men of God were pressured to do things. We cannot move or be led based on the pressure that something or someone puts on us. Abraham was one of them. When Abraham cracked under the pressure, he birthed Ishmael. When Moses gave in to the pressure of the crowd, he hit the rock instead of speaking to it.

Jesus didn’t respond to the pressure. When pressure presented itself, He looked to the Spirit to lead ‘Him. Jesus wasn’t moved by storms. He slept through them, and when it was time, for the disciples’ sake, he rebuked it. 

When his mother wanted him to turn the water into wine, He rebuked her and the pressure and said my time has not come yet. Even though He did turn the water into wine, He didn’t do it because of the pressure of the situation. He didn’t do it because the party needed it and everyone would be upset. No! He did it because it was the Spirit that moved him to do it. He didn’t do it out of their need. He did it because it was the will of God. 

Jesus was not let by the needs, not by the want, not by compassion, not by anything except the Spirit of God. Even when people came crying for Him to heal, He didn’t heal or deliver them right away. Yet when He saw faith in them, He moved. The need didn’t move Him, the want didn’t. Faith did. Even when the lady that had the demon-possessed daughter came crying out to Him, He turned away from her at first, but when He saw Her faith, He moved. Yet He didn’t do it because of her situation. 

How many of us are under situations, put in the middle of a problem? How many of us react based on an event or the pressure of something or someone? This is what the world does. They react based on their situation. Jesus never reacted, He was led. His heart was moved with compassion but His actions were still led by the Spirit. 

We are called to walk greater than the ways of the world. When the world gets into a situation, they pray and start going to church because of their situation. They start remembering prayers from their Catholic Church days and start praying them because they are in need or in want. 

Yet then when their need is met, when their want is fulfilled, they go back to the world and forsake their form of godliness that they put on for a season. Many of us in the body don’t think we do anything like that but when you’re praying desperately or doing something godly because of something or someone, we are acting just like the world. Even if something bad happens, we are not called to react. We are called to take it to Him. The Bible says in every circumstance take it to Him by prayer and supplication. 

We are not called to reach and do things based on circumstances. We are called to take it to God. 

“Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition.” Philippians 4:6-8

“Fret not!” Do not react! Do not be worried, do not panic. When something goes wrong, we like to panic. We need to change our reaction. The world panics, but in the Kingdom, God says, “Be still”. The wisdom of the Kingdom is foolishness to man. 

“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalms 46:10

The world should fret because they don’t know God, but Beloved, you know Him! And He knows you. Worry not, because He is God and He can do whatever He wants to. He has power over death, hell, and the grave. He has the final say in your life. The world doesn't, the devil doesn't. 

When the world or the devil did anything to the children of God, it was only because God allowed it. Look at every situation where the people of God were harmed and you can see it was God. It was God who turned the Israelites over to their enemies. It was God who ordained Jesus’ death. It was God who ordained Job’s situation. It was God who had authority and power over their lives, and now the same is for you. 

So if that’s the case, be still! Know that He is God. Know that good or bad, it’s Him. All that you need to make sure of is that you’re not fretting and that you start believing. That you start being still that you would hear Him and know the way He is going. When we react and panic, we make ourselves double-minded. Walking in fear and faith and the Bible says a double-minded man can receive nothing from God. 

Yet if we would be still in Him. If we would wait on Him, the Bible says strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord. The promise is to those who wait. The promise is to the one who waits for the moving of the Spirit. 

Moses moved in the flesh and God decreed that He could not go into the Promised Land because of that. (Read Numbers 20:8-12.)

In Exodus, God told Moses to hit the rock to receive the water for the people. Yet in Numbers, God told Him to speak to the rock, yet instead, he hit the rock twice. 

Then came the water drawn for the people, yet God rebuked him and said, “Because you did not believe in me, to uphold me as holy in the eyes of the people of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land that I have given them.”

The ability of the flesh will never get us into the promised land. Yet Moses’ problem was that he did not believe God that He would accomplish what He said He would do. When God tells us to do something, He’s not counting on us to perform it. He’s counting on us to obey that He can perform it.

See we’re too busy counting on our flesh to do what only God can do and we are putting pressure on ourselves. When God said to bring the tithe to the storehouse, He said “test me”. Now we are bringing our obedience to the storehouse, God is telling us to test Him that He won’t move! See if He won’t do it! 

He likes it when we move on His Word and look to see if He will move because He will do what He says He will do. When we do our part, He does His. God said “test me” and He is saying to us now the same. He’s saying put the pressure on me! Put the burden on me! Put the yoke on me. Be still and believe that I will do it. 

The Bible says when you pray believe that you have received! Believe it! Or else your prayer is in vain. Many are praying in vain because many are praying in fear. Many are praying because of their fretting. Yet the prayer of faith saves! Faith moves God. Faith is an impartation but how can I receive faith from God if I freak out or react in every situation. I must be still and receive. Be still because all you want to do is not be still. Be still that you would hear that still small voice.

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself.” Psalm 37:7
